| | Volunteers' Week is 1 - 7 Jun 2008 and Leukaemia Research would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all our fantastic volunteers who rattle tins, organise events such as the Bikeathons, and turn up to help at our events as well as assist in head office.
So many of you have shown such dedication over the years and it’s thanks to you that Leukaemia Research is able to fund world class research which is leading to better treatments for all blood cancers.
 | | One volunteer who has been singled out at this time is Lyn Evans, a grandmother of eight who helped raise more than £250,000 for blood cancer charity Leukaemia Research, who will go to the Palace on 11 June to receive an MBE for her services to the charity.
Lyn from Powys, Wales, lost her husband Emlyn to leukaemia in 1972. “My youngest child was just 11 and all my children were still at school,” recalls Lyn, who went along to a few meetings of the Mid-Wales Branch of Leukaemia Research but at first felt too lonely and upset to join. However, she went back later and has been involved ever since. |
Lyn says: “I am very proud to receive this honour but all the reward I needed was the knowledge that some people are being cured thanks to our fundraising efforts.”
