| | Craig Doyle Release Date: 25 June 2007
TV and radio presenter, Craig Doyle is set to undertake the Michelob ULTRA London Triathlon this August, in aid of cancer charity, Leukaemia Research.
After presenting for the BBC at the event last year, Craig is now taking on the challenge himself, swimming 1.5km, cycling 40km, and finishing the day with an exhausting 10k run. Around 10,000 people look set to take part in the event on 5 August.
The TV personality jumped at the chance to take part after meeting Leukaemia Research’s Chairman of Fundraising and triathlon team captain, Alastair Campbell. He said: “I interviewed Alastair during the 2006 London Triathlon and he still had the energy to convince me to take part! Seeing Alastair and the other thiathletes in action really inspired me to give it a go, so this time I’m hanging up my microphone and pulling on my wetsuit to raise some money for this great charity.”
Leukaemia Research is one of the official charities of the Michelob ULTRA London Triathlon, and its ‘Banana Army’ team of 600 people is hoping to raise £300,000 to fund research into leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma – all types of blood cancer that affect 110,000 people in the UK every year.
Craig continued: “The atmosphere on the day is always buzzing and although it’s going to be very hard work, I’m going to focus on the money I’m raising that’ll help people survive this type of cancer.”
