*Thanks to the support of local fundraisers, leading researchers at the University of Southampton have further increased their understanding of a rare subtype of childhood cancer.

The team, led by Professor Christine Harrison, in the Leukaemia Research Cytogenetics Group of the Cancer Sciences Division in the School of Medicine, have recently found a new unique subtype of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) – the most common form of cancer diagnosed in children.

The continuing programme of research will see the scientists collecting samples from a wider group of patients and collaborating with international colleagues to get a wider picture of the range of genetic abnormalities involved in ALL.

Our ‘Banana Army’ running team is vital to out continuing research commitments, and the team are turning out in ever-greater numbers at the BUPA Great South Run in Portsmouth. This year we’re hoping to have over 3,000 runners painting the south coast a shade of yellow!
