*There are a number of laws that govern fundraising in the UK. We summarise some of the most common here. However, it's important that you let us know about any fundraising activities that you're planning to undertake on our behalf so we can help to make sure your are acting within the law; it'll also help us to help you make the most of your fundraising.Register here

Raffles

If you're planning to hold a public raffle then you will need a licence. We have a licence at our main office that may be used with our permission but in order to do so and remain within the law you have to comply with rules about price, ticket format, expenses etc and after the raffle send us a formal return. There are exceptions if the raffle is part of, and incidental to, a larger fundraising event. We will advise you in all of these regards. Contact Us for more information.

Public collections

Raising money or selling goods for charity in the street usually requires a licence from the appropriate local authority. It is sometimes possible to do so on private property so long as you have the prior permission of the owner. You also need a licence for door-to-door collections. If you'd like to hold a public collection or your event involves collecting from the public in any form please contact us and we will advise. Contact Us for more information

Keeping costs down

We try to maintain low running costs in order to ensure that the greatest possible proportion of what you raise goes directly to research. It's important when planning any event to consider your costs and how you're going to cover them and to try and keep them as low as possible.

If you wish to take part in expensive events, such as parachute jumps or challenge events, we ask that you don't take money from sponsorship to cover the cost of the event. We ask that you either cover the cost of your event yourself or try to obtain a corporate sponsor: your employer or another local firm, may be willing to help out in return for a little publicity.
