In October 2006, DIY retailer Wickes chose Leukaemia Research to be their first charity partner.

Now, in June 2008 Wickes colleagues have raised a phenomenal £450,000, surpassing all expectations and demonstrating their commitment to the fight against blood cancers.

Throughout the course of the partnership, staff at Leukaemia Research have worked closely with Wickes colleagues to ensure they received the best support for their fundraising activities and awareness raising.

*Everyone in the company has contributed to the success of the partnership. Colleagues have enthusiastically thrown themselves into the fundraising, with fancy dress days, national collections, head shaves, sky dives, running events, 3 peak challenges and Tour de France’s to name but a few activities!

Highlights of the partnership include the National Collection days over the May bank holidays and the Charity Dinner in November 2007.

Both 2007 and 2008’s National collections contributed to record breaking monthly incomes of £30,000 and allowed Wickes colleagues and Leukaemia Research volunteers to work together.

The Charity Dinner raised over £100,000 – an amazing figure for this inaugural event, held at the new Wembley stadium.

Jeremy Bird Wickes MD said "Our partnership with Leukaemia Research has gone from strength to strength since it began in October 2006. This is due not only to the fantastic fundraising achievements of everyone within Wickes, but also the significant support we have received from the Leukaemia Research team. We are all very proud of what we have accomplished so far for this great charity".
