The Calendar Girls launch their new Recipe Calendar

Release Date: 18 October 2007

Yorkshire’s world-famous Calendar Girls are offering a chance to taste your way through 2008 as their latest calendar features their favourite recipes.

The Calendar, sold in aid of Leukaemia Research, will feature some of the original, well-loved photos and new images of the ‘Girls’ preparing delicious treats in the kitchen. On the reverse side of each month, the Calendar Girls have chosen their favourite seasonal recipes, from Yorkshire Pudding and Victoria Sponge to Fruit Loaf and Christmas Cake.

The fundraising phenomenon of the Calendar Girls was inspired by the sad loss of Angela Baker’s husband John who died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma aged just 54 in 1998. During his illness his friends began to raise money, initially with the aim of purchasing a sofa for the hospital where John was treated.

Nothing could have prepared them for the way their original calendar took off and to date they have raised over £1.3million for Leukaemia Research. The Calendar Girls are now hoping the 2008 calendar will help them towards their new target of £2 million for the charity.

Calendar Girl Angela Baker says: "This year’s calendar is special because you get two for the price of one - wonderful photos and some proper Yorkshire recipes on the back of each month. We’ve included some of our favourite recipes for dishes we make on a regular basis. It would make a lovely Christmas present, and help us meet our target to raise £2 million for Leukaemia Research."

The compact desktop calendar, priced at £5.95, is available via www.leukaemiashop.com or by calling 01923 779 181.
