ASDA double the pleasure of delicious Calendar Girls chocolates
The Calendar Girls at ASDA
Release Date: 16 April 2008
Chocolate lovers can now give to charity and enjoy a delicious box of chocolates featuring the famous Calendar Girls sold in ASDA stores across the UK. Chocolatiers Whitakers and leading retailer ASDA will each make a donation to cancer charity Leukaemia Research for every box sold.
The chocolates made by UK chocolatiers Whitakers, feature 12 Neapolitan squares wrapped in an iconic ‘Calendar Girls’ image and are sold in support of Leukaemia Research. But now ASDA are doubling the donation to the charity by matching the 20 pence from each box sold that Whitakers already give to the charity. So the charity will receive 40 pence per every box sold in ASDA.
The chocolates are available in the majority of ASDA stores nationwide from 16 April until 13 May. Lisa Moore, ASDA Confectionery Buyer, says: "It's absolutely fantastic that ASDA are supporting Leukaemia Research with their vital work, it's for a great cause."
The fundraising efforts of the Calendar Girls was inspired by the sad loss of John Baker who died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma aged just 54 in 1998. Nothing could have prepared the Girls for the way their original ‘naked’ calendar took off and to date they have raised nearly £2million for the UK’s leading blood cancer charity Leukaemia Research.
John Whitaker, owner of Whitakers Chocolates said: "The phenomenon of the Calendar Girls is just amazing. Something that began in north Yorkshire is now known worldwide and I’m delighted to use our chocolates to help the Girls raise even more cash for Leukaemia Research."
The chocolates, priced at £2 a box, are available at selected ASDA stores from 16 April and are also on sale via www.leukaemiashop.com or by calling 020 7405 0101. The chocolates are also available from the Whitakers shop in Skipton and at other retailers nationwide.
