They’ve graced the pages of a worldwide hit calendar and diary, and been portrayed on the big screen. Now, Yorkshire’s famous WI ladies the Calendar Girls are set to feature on a special box of chocolates, thanks to Whitakers Chocolates Ltd
The Skipton chocolatier launched the sets of twelve Neapolitan squares at the conference of blood cancer charity Leukaemia Research, the cause that benefited from the ladies’ original naked calendar. Each chocolate is wrapped with an image of each of the Calendar Girls, and twenty pence from each box goes directly to Leukaemia Research. Diners at the pre-conference meal at Nottingham’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, on Friday 13 April were each treated to the first taste of one of the new chocolates, and four of the Calendar Girls - Linda Logan, Ros Fawcett, Tricia Stewart and Christine Clancy - were on hand to talk to supporters about their new venture. John Whitaker, owner of Whitakers Chocolates, who also attended the event, said: “The phenomenon of the Calendar Girls is just amazing. Something that began in north Yorkshire is now known worldwide, and I’m delighted to use this original idea to help the Girls raise even more cash for a fantastic cause.”
