Tireless Leukaemia Research supporter, Ken Lomas MBE, has been awarded a 'BUPA Great North Run Hall of Fame Award' at a ceremony held at the Hilton Gateshead.
Hosted by Brendan Foster and his company Nova, Ken was one of those honoured for helping to make the BUPA Great North Run into the biggest half Marathon in the UK.
Host Sue Barker introduced Ken's award and a short film for him afterwards, with friends recognising his enormous contribution both to the Great North Run and Leukaemia Research.
Emmerdale stars and celebrity Leukaemia Research runners, Chris Chittel and Tony Audenshaw paid tribute to Ken and his ability to inspire support in so many. More compliments came from Douglas Osborne, retired Chief Executive of Leukaemia Research and Alastair Campbell who described Ken as a "Five Star General of the Banana Army".
In an emotional acceptance speech, Ken paid tribute to his family and the wonderful actors from stage and screen who have given up so much of their time over the years to raise profile and funds for Leukaemia Research.
Leukaemia Research’s Banana Army is taking part in all major running and triathlon events in the UK this season. The next one in their busy calendar is the Flora London Marathon on 22 April.
For your chance to take part in future events and help raise money for vital research, join the Banana Army team.
