Release Date: 09 May 2007

The UK’s premier chilled dairy foods company, Dairy Crest, has raised a record-breaking £1million for cancer charity, Leukaemia Research.

Employees at the company have been supporting the charity for the past four years, are the first of the charity’s corporate partners to break the £1million barrier.

Mike Sheldon, Managing Director of Dairy Crest's Household Devision, said: “I would like to thank all of our staff and our customers who have so kindly helped us become Leukaemia Research’s most successful corporate partners. Throughout the four years we’ve met many people who’ve had personal experiences of blood cancer and are delighted that the money raised will go towards helping them.”

Over the past four years Dairy Crest staff, their families and friends have embarked on a number of entertaining fundraising activities, from a sponsored walk with all participants dressed as cows, to 24 hour golf challenges and sponsored head shaves. Their customers have been generous supporters of the fundraising partnership by returning full donation envelopes, helping to boost the total to £1million.

Kate White, Director of Fundraising at Leukaemia Research said: “The staff at Dairy Crest have all worked tremendously hard over the past four years. We are all delighted they have raised so much for Leukaemia Research. Raising £1million is a huge achievement and will help save the lives of those battling against blood cancers in the future.”
