| | Tony Audenshaw Release Date: 2 May 2008
Tony Audenshaw, who plays the loveable Bob Hope in TV's Emmerdale, is encouraging people to sign up to run in this year's 'Bananaman Chase' on Sunday 22 June at Kempton Park in Surrey. The event, in support of leading blood cancer charity Leukaemia Research, will see runners aiming to overtake as many 'top bananas' as they can as they run around the flat, traffic-free track at Kempton Park.
Ten people with personal experiences of leukaemia and related blood cancers have been chosen to dress up in banana suits and act as pace setters in the 10-kilometre fun run. Tony, an experienced 'top banana' says: "It's a completely unique event - always great fun and there's a brilliant camaraderie amongst the participants. Sign up now to run and raise money for vital research into blood cancers."
The 'top bananas' start ahead of the runners and each runs at a different pace, so whether you are a fast runner or want to walk you will have a chance to beat a 'banana'! There are still places available and for the first time this year, there will be a junior Bananaman Chase for entrants under 12.
Famous faces from Leukaemia Research's TV Times celebrity running team, of which Tony is a member, are also expected to take part in the race. A band and other entertainment will make it a great day out for all the family.
This run follows the Bananaman Chase held in London last year where 1,200 people ran and raised over £100,000 for Leukaemia Research's vital research into better treatment and cures for blood cancer.
All entrants will receive fundraising support and a race-day t-shirt. Finishers will get the much sought-after 'Bananaman medal' as well as lots of other goodies. Anyone over 16 is welcome to join the adult race to beat the 'top bananas'
Register now for only £15 per person. Entrance to the Junior Bananaman Chase is just £3. There's still time to join the pack of runners preparing for the unique opportunity.
