A record number of ‘Banana Army’ triathletes turned London’s Docklands a shade of yellow at the 10th Michelob ULTRA London Triathlon (Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 August 2006).
Over 700 fundraisers completed Olympic, sprint and team triathlons over the weekend, and it is hoped their efforts raised over £300,000 to commit to new research.
Leukaemia Research’s Chairman of Fundraising Alastair Campbell completed his second triathlon in a week, finishing the Olympic swim, cycle and run in 2 hours 50 minutes, a week after completing the Salford Triathlon in 2:44.
He was joined by stars from the TVTimes and Asics-sponsored celebrity running team, including Shauna MacDonald from BBC drama Spooks and former Emmerdale star Emma Atkins in taking on the course.
