Release Date: 31st May 2006

Continuing our commitment to providing high quality information for patients, their families and friends, two new booklets on the subjects of chemotherapy and acute promyelocytic leukaemia are now available from Leukaemia Research.

‘Chemotherapy – What do I need to know?’ is a brand new booklet for blood cancer patients, covering all the important information about what chemotherapy involves for blood cancer patients.

The guide was written by Jenny Rodgers and Lynne Watson, two research nurses at Nottingham City Hospital, and draws on their experiences treating blood cancer patients on the wards.

New subjects are tackled in the booklet, including fertility and lifestyle. It also offers practical suggestions and advice in coping with the side effects of treatment.

“This booklet is designed for patients undergoing chemotherapy,” said Dr David Grant, Leukaemia Research’s Scientific Director. “It is also intended for families and friends of patients so they can provide help and support during treatment.”

Also now available is a new booklet that focuses on acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL), a sub-type of acute myeloid leukaemia that affects around 200 people in the UK each year.

“APL is very different to AML in terms of the way it is treated,” said Dr Grant. “From the unique features of this blood cancer to explaining the treatment a patient may face, this new guide is a welcome addition to our information series.”

Both titles are now available from Leukaemia Research – to order, email medicalinfo@lrf.org.uk, call 020 7269 9060 download in PDF format below.
