People from the North-east will be offered a unique opportunity to see the exciting research taking place to tackle leukaemia and related blood cancers in Newcastle on Saturday 9th October.

For the Leukaemia Research Open Day laboratory doors will be opened to the general public, who will have the opportunity to meet the researchers who are helping beat leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Each year around 24,500 people each year in the UK are diagnosed with these diseases.

They will be able to see and learn more about the cutting taking place in the city and will also have the chance to see how money raised by thousands of supporters across the UK is working to help make a different to the lives of leukaemia patients in the North-east and throughout the country.

"This is a one-off opportunity for people to get close up and see how far we have progressed in the fight to beat leukaemia," says Dr David Grant, Scientific Director at Leukaemia Research.

"With millions of pounds committed to research over the next five years, our team of pioneering researchers and doctors in Newcastle play a key part in our national research programme," he adds.

The event takes place at the University of Newcastle, Paul OGorman Northern Institute for Cancer Research on Saturday 9th October.
