| | Michelle Lineker delivering milk to raise money for Leukaemia Research. Release Date: 25th May 2004
You may be used to seeing Gary Lineker dressing up for the Walker’s adverts, but now it’s the turn of his wife Michelle to put on a costume - as she becomes a Dairy Crest milkperson (in Folkestone) for the day to raise money for Leukaemia Research.
Michelle will be up bright and early at 3am on Thursday (27th May) to join local milkman John Christie from the Folkestone depot on a sponsored milk round. She agreed to take part in the fundraiser when she met John and his wife Sue at a recent event in London. Folkestone is just one of the many Dairy Crest depots that together have raised an amazing £250,000 for Leukaemia Research, a cause very close to Michelle and John’s hearts. Michelle and Gary’s eldest son George was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was just a baby and underwent several years of chemotherapy at Great Ormond Street Hospital before being given the all clear. John’s wife Sue, Operations Manager at the Folkestone depot, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2002. The mother of four is now in remission following ten months of treatment. Sue was treated at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford - and has to go back for quarterly check-ups. Together with their colleagues from Dairy Crest across Kent, John and Sue have been devoting their time and energy to raising money for Leukaemia Research. Michelle explains: “Leukaemia is a horrific disease, as anyone who has experienced it will tell you. It strikes adults, of course, but also children of any age - babies, toddlers and teenagers in their prime school years. “When I met John and Sue we started talking about John's milk round and he said; why don’t you join me? I thought; why not, if we can help Dairy Crest raise even more money for Leukaemia Research. Their customers have been incredibly generous so far, and I hope that by getting up at the crack of dawn I will encourage a few more people to dig deep for a very worthy cause!” Anyone interested in sponsoring Michelle’s early-bird challenge should call Leukaemia Research on 020 7405 0101 or e-mail fundraising@lrf.org.uk
