A Lancashire teenager who lost her uncle to leukaemia is taking on the BUPA Great Manchester Run on Sunday 22nd May 2005 to raise money for the UK's leading blood cancer charity.
Amie Bromley, 19, from Ashton-under-Lyne in Tameside, is planning to tackle the 10k challenge for Leukaemia Research, in memory of her uncle who died of leukaemia in 1999.
"My brave uncle Ian sadly died at the aged of 35. It was only nine months after being diagnosed and I am so proud of him and how he fought his illness," says Amie, who is a second year language and speech therapist student at the University of Central England, in Birmingham.
As this is her first ever run, Amie has been training hard for the big day. The BUPA Great Manchester Run is one of the world’s fastest growing running events and the course will make its way through the streets of central Manchester taking in some of the city’s most striking landmarks along the way.
"When my uncle Ian died I was 13 years old. His son had just turned one and so it was a really difficult time for all the family. So if my run can help in some way to make a difference for other people who are suffering as my uncle did, then I am proud to be running for Leukaemia Research," adds Amie.
As well as having her family and friends cheering on the day, Amie will be running in good company as she take to the streets of Manchester. As part of the Leukaemia Research TVTimes & Asics celebrity Banana Army running team Amie will be running alongside a variety of TV celebrities including Emmerdale's Chris Chittel (Eric Pollard), ex-Doctors and The Bill star Steve Hartley and Cutting It’s Jason Merrells (Gavin).
