Release Date: 10th June 2004

Emmerdale barman Bob Hope knows a thing or two about having a good time in the Woolpack - but this weekend he is looking forward to a marathon festival of fun when he comes to Edinburgh.

Actor Tony Audenshaw, who plays Bob, will be taking to the stage in the Leith Festival on Saturday night, performing with his band White Van Man, before running in the Syntegra Edinburgh Marathon the following morning. He has planned both events to raise money for his chosen charity, Leukaemia Research.

“I absolutely love coming to Edinburgh,” says Tony. “I always have a fantastic time and always look forward to coming back. This weekend will be really great fun with the gig and then the marathon the next morning with Leukaemia Research’s TV Times/Asics running team."

Tony - who was the fastest celebrity in the recent Flora London Marathon (with a time of three hours and four seconds) - will run alongside a host of stars from Leukaemia Research’s team. These include former world-record holder Liz McColgan, and actors David Robb, Briony McRoberts, Shauna Macdonald (BBC drama Spooks), Jamie Sives (Rockface), Noah Huntley (Holby City) and Cal MacAninch (Murphy’s Law).

“I hope I will be in good shape after the Leith Festival,” says Tony, who performs on Saturday evening (7.30pm) at the Lighthouse bar (32-34 The Shore, Leith, entry £5). "Luckily, I am running the relay event so I won’t have to do the full 26 miles."

White Van Man is a five-piece cover band, which plays a mix of pop/rock, indie, soul and cheesy songs. You can expect to hear covers of Rolling Stones, Blur, T-Rex, Beatles, Kylie and even an appearance by the king of rock and roll himself! The band will also be playing in front of Holyrood Palace as the marathon runners file past on Sunday.

Leukaemia Research is the only national charity devoted exclusively to improving treatments, finding cures and learning how to prevent leukaemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma and other lymphomas, myeloma and the related blood disorders, diagnosed in 24,500 people in Britain every year.
