| | Jennifer, a multiple myeloma patient, is the founder of the Ashford & District Branch.
"Research has revolutionised the prognosis for blood cancer patients - but research has to be funded and that's why I volunteer. For all of us who have been touched by these cancers, whether you are a patient, family member or friend, research offers hope for longer survival, better quality of life - and even a cure. Fundraising is an excellent way of saying thank you to all those dedicated professionals and researchers who have got us back on our feet again. I also find fundraising is a positive and therapeutic activity for me - it's good fun and a real tonic! I’ve met some great people through Leukaemia Research and it really helps me to stay positive and keep fighting."
Hazel, in remission, started the Milton Keynes Fundraising Group.
"I volunteer because others did it for me! I wanted to give something back because without research I believe I would not be here. I started off helping other Branches and doing small fundraising events and now have my own group in Milton Keynes. I get lots of support from head office and from other Branches so don’t feel like I am doing this on my own.
It’s so much fun and I do things I never thought I would.... like wear a banana suit and run in the Milton Keynes Bananaman Chase 10k !" |
