*Each application for funding is reviewed by several independent experts and then considered by our Medical and Scientific Advisory Panel or Clinical Trials Advisory Panel.

After careful consideration, the panels make recommendations on which applications should be recommended for funding. These recommendations are then considered by our Board of Trustees for approval.

Clinical Trials Advisory Panel

The task of the Clinical Trials Advisory Panel is to recommend funding of small-scale trials in patients with blood cancers in order to evaluate the potential of new treatments.

This panel considers:

*early stage trials to assess the effectiveness and safety of new drugs or other therapeutic agents prior to evaluation in national and international studies

*applications for the measurement of biological end points as integral components of trials.

The Clinical Trials Advisory Panel evaluates all applications for phase I/II trials. The panel chairman is Professor John Sweetenham. There are fourteen panel members each of whom serves for four years only.

The panel meets twice each year and considers trial protocols by both interviewing applicants and by considering the reports of referees on each application. Full feedback on the outcome of applications is provided.
