| | Through our rigorous selection process, we ensure that each project we fund is at the cutting edge of international blood cancer research and will help improve diagnosis or treatment for patients.
Every year, hundreds of scientists at hospitals and universities throughout the UK apply for funding from Leukaemia Research. In order to ensure that we fund the research that has the greatest potential to benefit patients, we have a very rigorous selection process.
First each application for funding is reviewed by experts world wide, who provide detailed feedback on the project and whether they think it should receive funding.
The applications are then passed to our Medical and Scientific Advisory Panel or Clinical Trials Advisory Panel. The advisory panels are made up of experts from different fields of biomedical research who serve on the Panels for three years.
The Panel members discuss each application and make recommendations about which projects should receive funding, based on the feedback received from the independent experts.
In the final step of our selection process, the Panel’s recommendations are brought before our Board of Trustees for approval. Our Board of Trustees serve in a voluntary capacity and are elected by our voluntary branches or co-opted for their expertise.
