A broad programme covering treatment and nurse management issues in haematology. Carol Turner, Lead Cancer Nurse, at Blackpool Hospital presents the nurse management of neutroprenic sepsis. Marie Waller is a bone marrow transplant co-ordinator and Amy Sinacola is a Macmillan Haematology CNS at Manchester Royal Infirmary. Together they discuss the myeloma patient pathway in its attempt to create a coherent service for treatment and management for patients with this disease. A practical two stream conference focusing on delivering the Cancer Reform Strategy. The strategy gives a clear direction for cancer services in the next five years. The two streams focus on delivering the cancer reform; and a workshop stream covering the role of patients and patient partnership, the role of cancer networks and commissioning for improved services. Haematology nurses interested in the future of cancer services may be particularly interested in themes addressing those living with and beyond cancer; approaches to survivorship care; working together to deliver cancer information pathways: delivering information prescriptions; end of life care: improving the patient journey for those at the end of life and those living with cancer; and improving diagnosis and prevention. The Cancer and Palliative Care Partnership, Selby and York Locality, is hosting a Health Fair to promote positive living with cancer. The Cancer Reform Strategy was launched in December 2007. This emphasized the need to support and empower patients and carers throughout their cancer journey. The aim of the Health Fair is to provide patients, carers and professional staff with information about the supportive services that are available and to hear about the future developments that are planned for cancer services nationally and locally. Saturday 12 April 2008 Leukaemia Research Annual Conference Hosted by Leukaemia Research
This year the charity annual conference concentrates on the importance of early diagnosis and targeted treatment. Earlier diagnoses are now possible and increasingly targeted treatments can be given to patients. Because of these developments, more and more lives are being saved. Speakers will include Professor Andy Pettitt who will be talking about chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, Dr Andy Rawstron who will cover lymphoma and Professor David Linch who will discuss his work on acute myeloid leukaemia. Nurses are welcome and can visit the Nursing Leukaemia stand for information specific to nurses and find out more about the campaign and meet the many people who volunteer for us around the country.
