Clive Emery, son of late Conservative MP Sir Peter Emery, has completed a gruelling 4,300 mile bicycle ride across America in just under two months, to raise money for life-saving blood cancer research.
The trip was to raise money for Leukaemia Research in honour of his father, Sir Peter Emery, who died of leukaemia in 2004. Sir Peter, a prominent Conservative MP for 34 years, served the Honiton and East Devon constituencies before retiring in 2001.
Clive left Astoria, Oregon on 24 May and arrived in York Town, Virginia, on July 14, passing through eight states to raise money and awareness for Leukaemia Research.
Leaving behind the city life for a cycle bound adventure, Clive followed the TransAmerica route, taking in ocean coastline, mountainous terrain and expansive plains and passing through the renowned Yellowstone Park.
“One of the great things about this trip is that you have a great deal of time to think about the things that really matter, like family and friends. I was incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful father. His strength of character through his life and especially through his last months with leukaemia have been an inspiration, especially on some of the harder days in the saddle,” said Clive.
“I would like to say thank you to those that have given generously to Leukaemia Research. It makes the effort of cycling 4,300 miles seem very worthwhile,” he added.
