| | | | A number of projects based in Wales are making a real difference in delivering more effective treatment for patients.
Funding in Cardiff is currently £1.25 million, and a group of scientists at the University of Wales Medical School are giving hope to children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). They are investigating the impact of chemotherapy on bone development in children treated for the cancer, which could result in treatment that offers young patients a healthier future.
Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is another key area of interest for our researchers in Cardiff. Teams are looking at how to combat drug resistance in patients being treated for the disease, and are also working to increase the understanding of how genetic changes in white blood cells may be linked to the development of AML.
All the great work is supported by our committed Welsh fundraisers, and 13 voluntary branches in Wales are making sure there’s always a fundraising event going on near you.
