The Wickes Charity Dinner in aid of Leukaemia Research beat all expectations and raised in excess of £95,000 - almost twice its expected target. The dinner, on 15 November, was held at the new Wembley Stadium and initially was predicted to raise £50,000 for Wickes’ first ever charity partnership.
The enormous generosity of over 500 guests, made up of Wickes top fundraising colleagues and suppliers, during the table raffle, auction and donations appeal led to the unexpectedly high total raised. Bidding during the auction was so competitive that one lot alone went for £26,000 - the top two bidders paying £13,000 each to race each other for a day on chartered yachts. Comedian Omid Djalili took the stage to round the evening off, which the guests really enjoyed.
Jeremy Bird, Managing Director of Wickes, said: "Wickes’ staff and Leukaemia Research have really worked hard to make this charity partnership work, our customers have been very generous and the Dinner has shown the kindness of our suppliers. Events like these take a tremendous joint effort to organise, but the money raised at the Wembley Dinner represented a brilliant return for the hard work put in."
Leukaemia Research’s Chief Executive, Cathy Gilman said: "We are delighted at the success of the Wembley charity dinner. The generosity shown by everyone attending was incredible. Our partnership with Wickes has gone from strength to strength with our original target of £200,000 for this year already smashed. All of this will make a real difference to the lives of those with blood cancers."
