Alastair Campbell, former Downing Street Director of Communications, is encouraging runners to join him before entries close for the ASICS Kingston Breakfast Run on Sunday 30 March, raising money for Leukaemia Research, the event’s official charity.
Mr Campbell, who is Chairman of Fundraising at Leukaemia Research and Captain of charity’s triathlon team, completed the Kingston Breakfast Run in 2006 along with over 3,000 others, dressed in the distinctive yellow t-shirts of Leukaemia Research’s Banana Army.
The Kingston Breakfast Run, one of the first running events of the year, is the ideal opportunity to improve fitness for the Flora London Marathon and other sporting events in 2008. The event’s scenic route starts in Kingston’s historic town centre and takes in the banks of the River Thames, Hampton Court Palace and Thames Ditton, continuing back into Kingston.
Speaking about the event, Mr Campbell said: "I’m a great supporter of the Kingston Breakfast Run and, fitness permitting, I will compete again this year. The race has a very flat course and I took the one lap option last time, working out at just over eight miles - a distance that I think most relatively fit people could manage with some basic training. I have also completed the full 16-mile version in previous years and the flatness of the route makes it a great opportunity to get a personal best.
“As well as a great day out, all money raised will help make a real difference to the lives of people affected by leukaemia, Hodgkin's and other lymphomas, myeloma and related blood cancers."
Registration is still open for the Kingston Breakfast Run at only £18 per person for the 16 mile run and £17 for the 8.2 mile run. For more details or to enter visit the Kingston Breakfast Run website, or email info@humanrace.co.uk.
