Chester Forget Me Not Walk
Chester Forget Me Not Walk

Release Date: 17 Sept 07

Ruth Taylor and her daughter Hannah shared very special memories with the Calendar Girls when they completed the Chester Forget Me Not Walk in aid of Leukaemia Research on Sunday 16 September.

Ruth's younger daughter Amy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in April 2004. Despite successive courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy plus a bone marrow transplant, she died aged 19 years, in December 2005.

Since Amy's death, Ruth of Bosley, Macclesfield, and Hannah, from Leeds, have been fundraising for Leukaemia Research. They completed the 5km Forget Me Not Walk and met the Calendar Girls at the event's finish line, where walkers were rewarded with a cream tea.

Speaking about her daughter, Ruth says: "Amy was always cheerful even in the face of her illness. She was an inspiration in the way she underwent painful and exhausting treatment without complaint - never once letting her high standards fall be it her appearance or her levels of courtesy to others."

The Forget Me Not walk, sponsored by Hotter Shoes, is a 5km sponsored walk for people of all ages, which took place in Chester on 16 September. Over 300 people attended the event, which was the first Forget Me Not Walk.

Cathy Gilman, Chief Executive at Leukaemia Research, says: "I am delighted that the first Forget Me Not Walk was such a success. Some people like Ruth and Hannah walked in memory of a loved one, others came just to support the work of Leukaemia Research."
