A banana bonanza hit Brands Hatch as Leukaemia Research’s Banana Army unleashed 150 runners at the racing circuit’s third half marathon. The event, which took place on Saturday 9 February, was organised by Running Fitness and Saucony with official charity partner Leukaemia Research, the UK’s leading blood cancer charity.
The Brands Hatch Half Marathon featured three race events: the traditional 13-mile race, a 10k run and an additional one-mile Bananaman Chase.
The Bananaman Chase, in aid of the event’s official charity Leukaemia Research, saw entrants running to overtake pacesetters dressed in banana suits. On the day, competitors were able to tread the same ground that racing legends like Moss, Prost and Piquet had burned round in former years.
Runners were also toeing the line alongside TVTimes celebrities, one of the official sponsors of Leukaemia Research’s Banana Army running team, including actors from well-loved TV dramas including Coronation Street and Holby City.
Kate White, Director of Fundraising of Leukaemia Research, said: "We’re proud to be the official charity for the Brands Hatch Half Marathon. Our Banana Army running team revved up for a great race which will help us raise much-needed money to beat blood cancers."
