| | Bananaman Chase in Milton Keynes Release Date: 6 July 2008
It’s back, the Bananaman Chase 10K returns to Willen Lake, Milton Keynes on Sunday 21 September 2008. The unique fun run in support of leading blood cancer charity Leukaemia Research comes back for a second year after the huge success of the 2007 event, in which 500 people took part and over £40,000 was raised.
Entries are now open for the event, which will see fundraising participants aiming to overtake as many ‘top bananas’ as they can as they run around beautiful Willen Lake.
Ten people with personal experiences of blood cancers have been chosen to dress up as the ‘bananas’ and act as pace setters in the 10K fun run.
Banana number 10, Hazel Staten - a leukaemia survivor and local fundraiser for Leukaemia Research in Milton Keynes, said: "Events like the Bananaman Chase help to fund vital research which saved my life and the lives of many others.
"The event was fantastic in 2007 - it had a brilliant family atmosphere and was great fun. I was a ‘banana’ last year too. It’s pretty hot and uncomfortable running in a banana suit but you get used to it! I’d urge people to sign up to take part in this year’s event - it should be a really memorable day."
The ‘top bananas’ start ahead of the runners and each run at different paces.
Kate White, Director of Fundraising at Leukaemia Research explained: "Whether you're a fast runner or want to walk, you'll have the chance to beat a 'banana'. It's a great opportunity to get fit and really enjoyable."
For the first time this year, there will be a 2K Junior Bananaman Chase for entrants under 12 years old. A band and other entertainment will make it a great day out for all the family.
All entrants will receive plenty of support with their fundraising and a race-day t-shirt. Finishers will get the much sought-after ‘Bananaman medal’ as well as lots of other goodies for taking part.
Anyone over 16 is welcome to join the adult race to beat the ‘top bananas’, and help raise vital cash to fight blood cancers.
Register now for only £15 per person. Entrance to the Junior Bananaman Chase is just £3.
There’s still time to join the pack of runners preparing for the unique opportunity. For more details or to enter visit www.bananaman10k.com, e-mail banana@lrf.org.uk or phone 020 7269 9006.
