*Every hour of every day one person in the UK is diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. Around 45,000 people in the UK are living with the disease and incidence is rising.

Lymphatic cancers are a diverse family of diseases but are divided into two main types - Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas. They affect the lymphatic system, the body’s natural defence against infection, and tend to affect men more than women.

Given the appropriate treatment at the appropriate time, many lymphoma patients can have their disease managed effectively or even be cured. There have been huge advances in treatment which have resulted in more patients surviving, and with a better quality of life.

However much remains to be done.

November 2005 saw the launch of the Lymphoma Manifesto. This manifesto identifies the changes that are required throughout the patient journey if all today’s lymphoma patients, as well as the growing numbers who will have the disease in the future, are to receive the best treatment. If these changes are to be delivered, then greater resources will need to be allocated for lymphoma care.
