The Alternative WI Calendar Girls made a stunning return to the limelight at cinemas all over the world in 2003. The film Calendar Girls, based on the infamous Rylstone WI Calendar story has become one of the most successful British films in recent years.

Calendar Girls was produced by the UK's Harbour Pictures and Buena Vista International, part of the Disney corporation. The acclaimed cast included Dame Helen Mirren, Julie Walters (pictured centre with Tricia Stewart, left, and Angela Baker, right), John Alderton, Annette Crosbie, Philip Glenister, Celia Imrie, Geraldine James and Penelope Wilton.

Calendar Girls won critical acclaim even before it was released - a hit with audiences and critics alike at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003 and attracting a record crowd of 9,500 at the Locarno Film Festival. The film took over £20 million at the UK box office and more than $30 million in the USA.
