The 2008 Wirral Bikeathon took place on Sunday 8 June and marked the 10th anniversary of this event. The glorious weather brought hundreds of cyclists to Arrowe Country Park in aid of Leukaemia Research and we were delighted to have a record number of 1,445 entrants who have pledged the magnificent sum of £44,000 to our cause. When all additional donations and other income is added the final total should once again be over £50,000.

This is a tremendous achievement and everyone involved should be congratulated, including the entrants themselves, the many volunteers, the organisers and those who help on the day. The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Adrian Jones started the event and all riders completing one or both stages of the event were awarded a medal by Mr Stephen Hesford MP.

In the start, midpoint and finish area in the park area we were treated to some foot-tapping jazz courtesy of the Peninsula Jazz Band. We should like to thank everyone who took part on this special occasion of our 10th anniversary and in particular we wish to thank those champion riders who have ridden in every event for the past nine or 10 years. A big thank you to everyone!"
