The essential checklist

First things first you will you need to have a bike! But there are other things you will need to know, not only to look the part, but more importantly to be safe on the road. Before you set out on your cycle ride, please have a look through the list below to make sure you are well prepared.

-Helmets – Helmets are an essential safety item to have on the off-road tracks and paths. Using new technology, they offer a better fit and a more comfortable style. We highly recommend that all participants wear helmets.

-Cycling shorts – Cycle shorts are lined with a synthetic anti-bacterial and anti-microbial insert known as a chamois. Designed for an anatomic fit it prevents chaffing, adding padding and protection between you and the saddle.

-Base layers – These help to carry moisture to the surface of your outer garment, keeping you dry and regulating your temperature.

-Cycling gloves – A good pair of gloves will have padding under the base of the thumb, where the hand rests on the bar. It will not only help to absorb vibrations and prevent chaffing, but also offer protection in the event of a fall.

-Saddle – It is extremely important that the saddle is set at a correct height to allow your legs to rotate easily. This means that when the pedal is in the down position your leg is fully extended and when the pedal is in the up position your knees remain lower than your seat.

-Hydration and nutrition – Staying adequately hydrated and fuelled up with energy is critical to all cyclists. Being conscious of your body’s needs will ensure maximum comfort during your ride and aid in recovery afterwards.
