Cambridge fundraisers are hoping that a charity ball with a difference will help them raise £10,000 to support vital research, after winning a competition to have their event hosted by a local restaurant.
Raise 1000, an initiative set up by Athena Wu to bring together Cambridge musicians to raise funds for Leukaemia Research, are holding the ball “Pure Indulgence,” on Monday 24 July 2006, with guests entertained by the sounds of a 1930s-style band.
“Guests will be able to dance the night away to our 16-piece authentic dance band, the Footloose Dance Orchestra,” said Athena. “Not only will there be quality food served on the night, but guests are invited to dance the night away and enjoy the games, magician and other surprises on the night.”
The unique event is taking place after the idea was selected from entrants bidding to win a competition to hold a charity event at Madame Jojo's cocktails and cabaret marquee in the Royal Festival Gardens.
“We are delighted that Footlights have selected to host our event,” added Athena. “After the success of a musical banquet we held in February, where we raised over £3,000, this is a wonderful opportunity to make this a glamorous red carpet occasion and we hope we can hit our big fundraising target.”
Tickets to the glamorous event are available for a donation of over £30, and there will also be a charity auction on the night, with prizes from the worlds of music, celebrity and dance up for grabs for the highest bidders.
