Release Date: 25th October 2004

A group of Haydock friends will be celebrating the life of a colleague who sadly lost her battle against leukaemia, when they hold a Halloween Party on 29th October, in aid of Leukaemia Research.

Margaret Hollington, 46, from Warrington was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in late January 2004 and sadly lost her battle against the illness on March 4th.

The group organising the event all work at Nichols Foods in Haydock, St Helens, where Margaret had been employed in the customer services department for six years. Remembered fondly for her sense of humour, she enjoyed a full and active social life with her husband and two sons.

The Halloween event will be taking place at the Haydock Cricket and Bowling Club in Ireland Road, Haydock. Tickets priced £3 each are on sale at the Club and include a buffet laid on by the Nichols Foods Social Club and a disco with optional fancy dress.

All the money raised from the event will go to Leukaemia Research and her colleagues hope that the event will be a way of celebrating her life.

There will be some fantastic prizes up for grabs from local companies like Carlsberg Tetley, Warrington Wolves Rugby Club, Morrisons and Everton Football Club through an auction and raffle.

“Margaret was a kind, generous and caring person who was always the first to offer help and support to customers, colleagues and friends alike. Raising valuable funds for Leukaemia Research - a charity which relies entirely on voluntary donations - is a fitting tribute to a well-loved friend and colleague,” says Gary Unsworth who worked with Margaret at Nichols Foods.

When some of Margaret's colleagues at Nichols Foods found she had been diagnosed with leukaemia they decided to organise a sponsored slim, raising over £2,600 for the charity and a further £1,200 was raised for the ward at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, where Margaret had been treated.

“She touched everyone who knew her and left them with a smile. We were proud to call Margaret our colleague, but even prouder to call her our friend. We all miss her enormously,” says Iwonka Gierek, one of Margaret’s friends and a colleague.

For more information about the event contact Nichols Foods Customer Services on 01942 408600.
