| | Release Date: 19th March 2004
They say charity begins at home - well, big-hearted employees of Dairy Crest have shown that it also starts down on the farm! The efforts of the company - whose Household Division is based in Aldershot - on behalf of Leukaemia Research have netted a £250,000 cash cow for the cancer charity.
From fun runs to gruelling marathons, from bucket-rattling to a “name that cow” contest, Dairy Crest employees have “milked” every last opportunity to raise funds. Customers have done their bit too - responding in their thousands to an envelope drop by local milkmen. The “name that cow” competition - cunningly entitled “Moo Who?” - was designed for employees to name the cow that features on an enamel badge that Dairy Crest has been selling to raise money for the charity.
Hundreds of entries were received and the 8,000 employees have recently been informed that the winning name is - what else? - “Charity”!
Dairy Crest Household Division’s Operations Director, Max Earl, said: “The fact that we’ve raised so much money is testament to the commitment of our employees and the support of our customers. We are committed to supporting local initiatives and raising funds for Leukaemia Research centres. We’re keen to raise as much money as possible to support Leukaemia Research’s important work.”
Cathy Gilman, Leukaemia Research head of fundraising, said: “The support and dedication of Dairy Crest employees has been absolutely fantastic. ‘Moo who?’ was a really fun way of supporting a really important cause.
“The £250,000 Dairy Crest has raised is a message of hope and encouragement to the 110,000 people in the UK who are currently living with leukaemia and other cancers of the blood, lymphoma and myeloma.”
