A Cambridge medical student has returned from a fact-finding mission to New York, thanks to an award from Leukaemia Research.
Ming Yeong Lim, 24, received a £1,000 Elective Bursary from the UK’s leading blood cancer charity to allow her to visit research facilities at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York for a month. Whilst there she observed and assisted in haematology projects.
“I was delighted to receive this award,” said Ming Yeong. “I learnt so much in New York, which gave me great insight into the field of haematology and blood cancers.”
Ming Yeong was supervised by leading experts and was involved with teaching and the diagnosis of blood cancer cases, as well as research projects in the labs. She has gained valuable experience for her work at Magdalene College in Cambridge.
"The medical profession is so different in America, and it was great to be able to observe new and different treatments of patients with haematological malignancies," said Ming Yeong. “I am keen to combine a career in medicine with research, and this award was the first step to becoming part of what is a fast-moving and innovative field.”
